Intellisense Systems Manufactures and Ships Its 1,000th Micro Weather Station

In just four years, Intellisense Systems has manufactured over 1,000 Micro Weather Stations for a variety of military and commercial customers.

In 2011, the engineers at Intellisense Systems, Inc. were hard at work developing, designing, and testing the final prototype for an innovative, discreet, resilient, and highly accurate weather station that was able to monitor over 20 environmental parameters. This all-in-one device would be critical for the U.S. Armed Forces to operate in remote or denied terrain where weather observations were extremely limited. These weather observations were essential for keeping military personnel safe in the field and ensuring a mission’s success. A recently published case study details the many challenges posed by weather in combat situations, and how this solution from Intellisense Systems could help overcome those difficulties.

Now, just ten years later, the Intellisense production team has manufactured and shipped the 1,000th Micro Weather Station (MWS®), the all-in-one weather-monitoring solution that resulted from this years-long development. The MWS observes and reports over 20 environmental parameters, include temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction. Throughout its four-year existence, it has supported a variety of military and commercial customers who need an autonomous, quickly deployable, and highly accurate weather observations. The 1,000th MWS produced was part of an order of 70 units of the MWS-M625. This top-of-the-line model features a 360-degree panoramic camera and the world’s smallest lidar ceilometer to measure cloud layer height up to 10,000 feet. It is also built to military-grade standards only with domestically manufactured components.

Today, the MWS family of products includes five models for military and commercial customers. The Military Series abides by standards for U.S.-sourced parts and susceptibility requirements against electromagnetic interference. Commercial versions of the MWS feature the same ruggedized construction with more options to improve cost-effectiveness and serve a wider variety of applications, including aviation, search-and-rescue, construction, and logistics.
