Intellisense Systems’ Micro Weather Station Provides Meteorological Intelligence to Support Aerobatic Operations

Intellisense Systems’ Micro Weather Station provided precise visibility, wind, and cloud height measurements to guide the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s Blue Impulse team during Rally Japan 2024.

September 16, 2025 – Torrance, CA – Intellisense Systems’ Micro Weather Station played a critical role in supporting  the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s Blue Impulse aerobatic team during the FIA World Rally Championship Forum Eight Rally Japan 2024 in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The six-aircraft formation took off from Komaki Air Base and  performed over Toyota Stadium, relying on precise, real-time weather intelligence to ensure a safe and seamless  demonstration.

Aerobatic operations demand highly accurate meteorological data, as factors such as visibility, wind speed, and cloud height directly impact flight safety and timing. Weather can change rapidly during high profile events, and without localized field  measurements, flights risk delay or cancellation.

To meet these operational demands, the JASDF Weather Unit deployed the Intellisense Systems MWS-M615, an advanced portable aviation weather observation system. The unit measures temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and direction, cloud height, visibility, and precipitation. Compact and easily deployable, the system was set up at Toyota Stadium, where its data was continuously relayed to pilots via ground control using air-to-air radio communications.

This real-time flow of weather intelligence allowed pilots to make informed decisions and adjust their maneuvers to  atmospheric conditions. The result was a precise and uninterrupted aerobatic performance that enhanced the  opening ceremony of the international rally event while maintaining the highest standards of flight safety.

By delivering weather intelligence in dynamic environments, the MWS-M615 continues to support mission-critical  aviation operations worldwide. Its combination of portability, accuracy, and comprehensive sensing capabilities  enables military units, like the JASDF’s Weather Unit, to operate with confidence in rapidly changing conditions.
