Robert J. Natter
Robert J. Natter is a Director of Intellisense Systems, Inc., a defense and technology company based in Torrance, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve at age 17 and rose over a four-decade career from Seaman Recruit to four-star Admiral. From 2000 to 2003, Admiral Natter served as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, the first Commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command, and Commander in Chief of NATO’s Western Atlantic Command, leading more than 160,000 personnel and extensive naval assets. During the September 11 attacks, he directed immediate naval air and missile defense operations along the U.S. East Coast.
Admiral Natter previously commanded U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific and held multiple cruiser and destroyer commands. Earlier in his career, he deployed to Vietnam with a Naval Special Warfare Boat Unit, earning the Silver Star Medal and the Purple Heart. His senior staff assignments included Executive Assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Desert Storm, Director of Congressional Affairs for the U.S. Navy, and Deputy for Operations to the Chief of Naval Operations. His military honors include four Distinguished Service Medals, the Defense Superior Service Medal, multiple awards of the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star with Combat “V.”
Following his retirement from the Navy in 2003, Admiral Natter founded R.J. Natter & Associates, an international advisory firm focused on corporate and defense strategy. He currently serves as Deputy Chairman of NOVONIX and as a Director of Allied Universal, and previously chaired the boards of G4S Inc. and Physical Optics Corporation. He has also served on the boards of United Defense and BAE Systems and has received numerous international and civic honors, including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Order of the Rising Sun.
